Club. I jumped out of my rickshaw, ran through the ground
floor, and out on to the slip. I saw some thing which
appeared to be a child in the water, about 20 yards from me
and 50 from mouth of the tunnel. The tide seemed high. I
pulled my coat off and swam out to him and brought him in,
helped at the end by some V.R.C. bathers. The child groaned
when I caught hold of him. He had a very swollen fore he ad and
a deep gash at the back of his head. I did not know then who
he was. A police ambulance came and I went with it and the
boy to Government Civil Hospital.

In the afternoon of that

I was half way up the steps I saw a commotion on the Bridge.
I looked over from the top of the steps into the nullah. (I
saw among others Pte. Sellars on the bridge.) I saw a small

moving along. I saw a N.A.A. F.I employee also in the nullah.
I saw no other Chinese at the moment. I picked up the girl
whom I then recognised as Mary fine, brought her out and
handed her to Mr. Bowles or to a private I'm not sure which.
